4th of July Chambray Dress

Chambray on its own is own of my favorite versatile pieces. Growing up, my mom had just about every item you could think of in a chambray option so I can't help but smile as I think about how much I adore it as an adult. Although its technically a hue of blue I think of it as a perfect neutral that I could pair with just about anything, no matter the season or temperature outside. Luckily, with 4th of July just around the corner I can throw on a red lip and be just festive enough for a BBQ and some fireworks.

4th of July is extra special for the honey and I, not just because we are both military families, I am dating a former Navy Corpsman or that we are just about as patriotic as they come. But this also marks the anniversary of when we quit our jobs, packed everything up and flew to California and follow our hearts. This 4th of July marks 3 years since we made the move and we couldn't love the Golden State any more. Most years we spend the day at the beach and BBQing until the fireworks start, however, this year is a bit different. Being that my surgery was just this past Monday, you can read more about that over on Instagram, I am still in full recovery mode which means I still can't walk or get up on my own! This only means we will cook up some hot dogs on our own and save the beaching for another day, because lets face it, as soon as I can walk again you can't get this teacher away from the beach! Happy 4th y'all!

Peplum Pajamas

I have a love-hate relationship with pajamas. I don't want sexy lingerie and I don't want a grandma nightie so I tend to steer away from the whole category. I recently came across the cutest Etsy shop, PJMs Atelier, and was immediately in love with their adorable pajama sets.

I live in a small beach apartment without AC or heat, so when summer rolls around it's important I wear something light, airy and breathable to bed because unlike most girls -- I run hot! This tank top is super comfy and allows me to stay cool but most importantly, how adorable is the peplum detail?!

If you are as in love with this peplum set as I am I am so excited to share a special discount just for my readers! Head on over to PJMs Atelier and type in code XCHRS40 for 40% any shop item until the end of June! Hurry, hurry!

Spring to Summer with Express

There is something about the transition from spring to summer - which happens in about March in California, lets be real - that makes me want to grab anything linen, white, flowy, a straw hat and book a tropical getaway. This gorgeous crotchet dress from Express checked 2 of those things off my must have list. However, being that I am a teacher, booking that tropical getaway is going to have to wait a few months. Actually who am I kidding, on a teacher's budget it'll have to wait a bit longer than that. But thanks to this easy to transition spring dress I can at least feel like I'll be sippin' on pina coladas at sunset.

At the previous school I taught at, we always dreaded the months of March and April. Although it meant spring was on its way it also meant the awkward "am I going to wake up to warm weather or cold weather today?" and those dreaded end of the year assessments. Thanks to a cross country move and a switch to private school, now warm weather is an everyday occurrence and I am more worried about admissions testing for the following year instead of state exams {I still cringe when I type those words} which makes the end of the year much more enjoyable. A nice trade off if you ask me. But this abundance of warm weather has me constantly gravitating towards all the dresses in my closest. Which means...I.need.more.dresses! Luckily, to satisfy by urge for dresses I came across Express's spring dresses this season which are perfect with a cardigan for work and go even better with wedges and a cocktail in the evening. Because you know this chick is all about her afterwork happy hours. I mean that is why happy hour begins right after school lets out, right?

Hair Makeover!

"A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life" Wise words once spoken by Coco Chanel. It was 1 year ago this month I took my long black hair and nervously walked into a salon for a much needed cut. Back in college I was known for my rib length black hair and if you would have told me then I would ever chop it and dye it 'bronde' I would call you Kanye Crazy. After last years cut I got that 'short hair' bug but wasn't quite sure where to take it next.

Although its only February, the weather here in Orange County has already told us Spring is here, y'all! With a 'new' season, warm weather and already talks of wrapping up the school year I was itching for a change. And after following a few of Cristophe Salon's stylists on insta I was drunk-in-hair-love with just about every picture posted. I had also quickly become one of those girls who had 500 insta pics screenshot on my phone to show my next hair dresser.  I first ventured to Cristophe Salon to visit Michael for one of his famous colors and within a week I was back and sitting in Jennie's chair saying "Chop it!" I was ready for the every-famous lob. She took a good 3 inches off and I walked out feeling light, healthy, and totally Coco Chanel-ish. The exact change I am in for? Not a clue, but I am ready and I am 'lob-ing' my new fresh look. {get it, get it?

Does anyone else have serious salon anxiety? I am talking, worse than going to the dentist or getting surgery kind of anxiety. We all know the joke about what we think of as an inch and what our hair dresser thinks of as an inch. I don't know if it was the numerous pictures I liked on Jennie's insta or the ease in being to explain and show pictures of exactly what I wanted, but as soon as I sat down I was all in. Jennie, will you be my forever hair girl?! ;)

And anytime you visit a salon for a change you also need a new outfit and a night of drinks. *insert sassy emoji chick here*
